Portrait of Jessie M King by Lena Alexander (1899-1983)

Lena Alexander trained at Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh School of Art before moving to Kirkcudbright in 1939. She worked primarily in pastel, sometimes watercolour, painting flowers, portraits, and views of Paris and Venice. A member of the 'Scottish Society of Women Artists', Alexander exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. She died in 1983, and was one of the last surviving members of the 'Kirkcudbright School'.

Memories by Robert Louis Stevenson, 1919

Jessie M. King was commissioned by Foulis to design covers for a series of "Envelope Books" intended for gift giving. This one was orginally published in 1912 with Japanese Vellum Wrappers. This is the Foulis 1919 reprint with King's signature on the front wrapper. The colours are brighter than on the 1912 version HERE.
